Gal 6:4 But let every person carefully scrutinize and examine and test his own conduct and his own work. He can then have the personal satisfaction and joy of doing something commendable [in itself alone] without [resorting to] boastful comparison with his neighbor. (AMP)
As human beings, we always tend to be inclined to measure ourselves with others. Comparison may come in different forms. We compare careers, our spiritual walk, material possessions, whom we know etc. The Bible warns us against comparison since it steals our God given joy. This comes in when we focus on what others have and become blind to the blessings God has given us.
Galatians 6:4 reminds us that God has a unique plan for each and everyone of us. Comparison brings about discontentment. When Cain compared his offering to Abel’s, it led to anger and in the long run he murdered him. We risk operating out of God’s will and harm our relationship with Him when we fixate on others. The cure to overcoming comparison is contentment. This grows when we trust that God’s plan for our live is perfect, even when it looks different from others.
Let us cease the habit of comparing and start celebrating what God is doing in our lives and others. When we compare ourselves, we end up being destroyed. Let’s be contented by who we are and what God has put in our custody for this is a great gain.
