Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. “Philippians 3:13-14
Every new day is a gift from God, full of fresh opportunities and new beginnings. Yet, many of us start each day carrying the “broken pieces of yesterday—our regrets, mistakes, and hurts. When we do this, we deny ourselves the chance to experience the fullness of what God has in store for us today. While We all make mistakes, the good news is that God offers us forgiveness and a fresh start. Dwelling on past failures only holds us back from experiencing the new things God wants to do in our lives. Will Rogers once said “Don’t let yesterday take up too much of today.
Jesus teaches us the importance of living in the present moment. While God is doing something new in our lives, we must be willing to release the past in order to receive it. We cannot change what happened yesterday, but we can make the most of today by trusting in God’s provision and grace. God gives us the strength we need for today. Worrying about yesterday or tomorrow robs us of the ability to fully live in the present.
No matter how difficult yesterday was, God promises “new mercies” every morning. His grace is sufficient to cover all of our shortcomings, and His love renews us each day. Don’t start today with the “broken pieces of yesterday”. Leave behind the regrets, the mistakes, and the disappointments, and embrace the newness that God has in store for you. Each day is a fresh opportunity to grow, move forward, and experience God’s grace in new ways.
