Song of Songs 2:10-13
My beloved spoke and said to me, “Arise, my darling, my beautiful one, come with me. See! The winter is past; the rains are over and gone. Flowers appear on the earth; the season of singing has come, the cooing of doves is heard in our land. The fig tree forms its early fruit; the blossoming vines spread their fragrance. Arise, come, my darling; my beautiful one, come with me.”
Love creates a ripple effect both to the giver and the recipient. Upon invitation from the beloved, all the toxic effects of the desolate period are diluted bringing forth the much anticipated springtime. The havoc and wreckage of rain and storms ushers in the springtime! Spring season is full of flowers, songs, cooing of dove, early fruits and blooming of vines with fragrance.
It’s with this invitation that Christ is calling us.The winter may mean our life years passed in ignorance and sin, unfruitful and miserable, or by storms and tempests that accompanied our conviction of guilt and danger. Even the unripe fruits of holiness are pleasant unto Him whose grace has produced them. Christ invites us to arise from sloth and despondency and to leave worldly vanities, for union and communion with him (Mathew Henry).
There is no greater love than this, that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. When Christ’s love comes calling, it marks the springtime of agape love for He sticks closer than a brother. His love is greatest of them all. Today, we should respond to His Love and embrace His gift of salvation that we may thrive in love eternal.
