2Cor7:1 Therefore, since these [great] promises are ours, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from everything that contaminates and defiles body and spirit, and bring [our] consecration to completeness in the [reverential] fear of God. (AMP)
Pollutants are harmful substances that are released into the environment. They may include but not limited to dirty air, contaminated water, toxic waste etc. Our souls just like the physical environment, can also be contaminated. These toxic elements ,when allowed into our souls can poison our relationship with God.
Paul emphasizes the need to “cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit”. God promises to be our Father, to dwell in us and receive us as His people. Hearing God’s great promises should not leave us as we were before we heard them. God gives us His Word and shows us His grace so that we might obey Him and become the holy, separated, happy people He wants us to be.(The Pastor’s Study Bible)
We have to guard our hearts from pride, bitterness, envy and any form of toxicity. These and many other pollutants make our souls dull for God and should be done away with at any cost. Who we are on the inside is very crucial in our christian walk. Our God desires complete purity both outside and inside. Holiness is not optional for believers. That is why we must strive to avoid any pollutants that contaminate our souls. This will help us grow in holiness out of love and reverence for Him.
