Leviticus 6:12 And the fire on the altar shall be kept burning on it; it shall not be put out. And the priest shall burn wood on it every morning, and lay the burnt offering in order on it; and he shall burn on it the fat of the peace offerings.
Leviticus 6:13 A fire shall always be burning on the altar; it shall never go out.
The daily services upon the altar consisted of two lambs, one offered in the morning at sunrise and the other in the evening, when the day begun to decline. Both of them were consumed on the altar by means of a fire. The fire that consumed these sacrifices had to be kept burning and was not to be extinguished. Priests on duty had to constantly stoke the firewood.
As followers of Christ, we fuel the fire through God’s word applied in our lives, through prayers, worship, joyful praise, through loving one another and spurring each other on towards love and good deeds. We must endeavour to stoke the fire daily to enable it burn continuously.
Paul told the Thessalonians not to put out the fire of the Spirit ( 1Th 5:19). He was urging the church to continuously stoke the fire of their passion for God. Spending time with the Lord daily, reading or hearing the word of God being read and being around others who have the fire will help keep your inner flame burning.
