1The 5:18 — “In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”
Rom 8:28 — “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God…”
As we come to the end of 2025, we can thank God even if we were not excellent in all we did. Some plans failed, some goals remained unfinished, and some efforts fell short. Yet Scripture calls us to give thanks in everything, not because everything was good, but because God remained faithful. Gratitude acknowledges God’s presence even in our imperfection.
Looking back, we may see mistakes and missed opportunities, but we also see preservation and grace. The fact that we endured, learned, and kept moving forward is reason enough to be thankful. Gratitude shifts our focus from what did not work to what God protected and sustained. When we thank God in the mess, we declare that the mess does not have the final word.
As we prepare to enter a new year, gratitude strengthens our faith and restores our hope. What felt like failure, God used it for growth. What seemed unproductive, God used to mature us. When we choose thankfulness at the end of this year, we affirm that God’s work in us is not finished. Even in the mess, find something—just one thing—to be grateful for.
