Neh4:2, “What are these feeble Jews doing? Will they fortify themselves? Will they offer sacrifices? Will they complete it in a day? Will they revive the stones from the heaps of rubbish–stones that are burned?”. Now Tobiah the Ammonite was beside him, and he said, “Whatever they build, if even a fox goes up on it, he will break down their stone wall.”
These statements were given by Sanballat and Tobiah. Their intention was to mock , annoy and discourage the Jews who were rebuilding the wall of Jerusalem. The Jews were described as ” feeble” meaning miserable or even pathetic. Tobiah asserts that the wall was so inferior that even small weights ( a fox) would collapse it.
Their enemies reproached and ridiculed their undertaking but they did not heed to them. They prayed and went on with their work
Friends, we still have Tobias and Sanballats in our days. They specialize in fault finding, mockery , annoying and discouraging. They will never succeed in their missions. We are too blessed to be discouraged . Good work will always attract opposition. Like Nehemiah, do not heed to their scoffs.
