Mar 14:8 “She has done what she could. She has come beforehand to anoint My body for burial.Mar 14:9 “Assuredly, I say to you, wherever this gospel is preached throughout the whole world, what this woman did will also be spoken of as a memorial to her.”
This was at the house of Simon the leper at Bethany. A woman poured expensive oil of spikenard on Jesus’ head. Some people criticized her sharply because according to them, the oil would have been sold and the money given to the poor.
Jesus came to her defence. What they considered wasteful was actually good work. The woman came beforehand to anoint Jesus’ body in preparation for His burial. Christ followers could always minister to the poor but they could not get a chance to prepare His body for burial.
Apart from having a giving heart, this woman had a timely heart. She did the right thing at the right time; anointing the body of Jesus in preparation for His burial. Others ( Mar 16:1-4 Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome) wanted to do the right thing but were time barred; Jesus had already resurrected.
Christian friends, God’s time remains the best time. Sometimes we do the right things at the wrong time. Sometimes we come in when it is too late. Our prayer is that we shall be timely in all our endeavors.
