Joh 19:19-22 Pilate had a notice prepared and fastened to the cross. It read: JESUS OF NAZARETH,THE KING OF THE JEWS.The chief priests of the Jews protested to Pilate, “Do not write ‘The King of the Jews,’ but that this man claimed to be king of the Jews.” Pilate answered, “What I have written, I have written.”
Who is this man ? This was a common question concerning Jesus that was being asked by all ; the disciples ,Jews ,Pharisees, Sadducees and even the chief priest .
Upon his crucifixion, Pilate, who also questioned the validity of Jesus’ claim (john18:37 ) , wrote a placard on the cross, “JESUS OF NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS”. This caused the Chief Priest to protest and demand a change of the inscription to – “He claimed to be”. Pilate rejected and stuck to his decree.
Many people ask similar questions ; Who is Jesus?, Did he really die?, Will he ever come back as He promised ? Does his blood really clean sins?
This is the same proclamation that will be made by all people whether they believe in Him or not. ” That in the name of Jesus , every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is lord ”
This proclamation is of great worth to believers because it assures and guarantees us of eternal life after physical death .Let us fix our eyes on the cross and behold our king ,our savoir, our redeemer ,our friend and deliverer. Let us make a royal and personal proclamation through faith that indeed He is not only our king, but He is the King of kings and the Lord of lords(Rev 17:14).
