Isaiah 49:15-16 “Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you! See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are ever before me.
Isaiah paints a rather painful and disheartening scenario that is so rare in the world ; parents abandoning children they once held so dear to them.He reckons that its very much possible for this to happen.
The engraving on the hands is an allusion to some practice, common among the Jews at the time, of making marks on their hands or arms by punctures on the skin, with some sort of sign or representation of the city or the temple to show their affection or zeal for them.
God’s compassion for his people infinitely exceed those of the tenderest parents towards their children. He has constant care to believers and he is ever mindful of them. Unlike the worldly parents, our heavenly father can neither forget nor abandon his very own.Our names are not written but engraved on the palms of his hands such that whenever he unfolds them, our names appear.
Do you feel dejected ,abandoned, left out and forgotten ? Our heavenly father has never and will never do so.
