Ezra 8:22,23 I was ashamed to ask the king for soldiers and horsemen to protect us from enemies on the road, because we had told the king, “The gracious hand of our God is on everyone who looks to him, but his great anger is against all who forsake him.” So we fasted and petitioned our God about this, and he answered our prayer.
Led by Ezra, the exiled set out for a journey back to their land. Laden with treasures of gold ,silver and bronze together with all their possessions and young ones .The trip was long and had to go through hostile territories full of armed bands of thieves The enormous treasure that they carried made them a tempting target.
The only sane and wise thing to do was to ask the king for a detachment of soldiers to go along as guards. This was impossible because Ezra had been bragging to the king on Jehovah’s strength and mighty saving power. Aware of the impending dangers ,he called for fast and petitioned God for journey mercies. God graciously answered them.
Our everyday life consists of a journey all aimed at reaching a certain desired haven .This journey is perilous and the treasures we posses are the soft target of the enemy. At times, knowledge, skills and abilities may fail to keep the enemy at bay .It’s a such times that we need to engage prayers and fasting which are deep and stronger spiritual gears which disorient the enemy and dissolve all perils till we reach safely to our destiny . Desire to engage these gears as you embark on all life’s journey.
