1Sa 11:1,2 Nahash the Ammonite went up and besieged Jabesh Gilead. And all the men of Jabesh said to him, “Make a treaty with us, and we will be subject to you.” But Nahash the Ammonite replied, “I will make a treaty with you only on the condition that I gouge out the right eye of every one of you and so bring disgrace on all Israel.”
The Israelites were living in Jabesh Gilead and their land was besieged by a king who seemed to be mightier than them. The Israelites sought for peace treaty with Nahash the Ammonite king so that they would be subject to him. Nahash replied that that would be possible only if he would gouge out the right eye of every one of them.
When Saul heard their words, the spirit of God came upon him in power, and he burned with anger. He went to war with them and the Lord gave him victory over the Ammonites (1Sam 11:6-11)
As part of God’s army, we should never seek to make peace treaties that will bring shame and disgrace to ourselves and to the body of Christ. The enemy is seeking to imprison us with “peace” treaties that will bring humiliation, diseases, debts, pain, hopelessness, slavery and poverty. Let us not settle for less, but go for more in Jesus name.
