John 11:21-22
“Lord,” Martha said to Jesus, “if you had been here, my brother would not have died. But I know that even now God will give you whatever you ask .”
Mary and Martha are in mourning period. Their neighbors came to comfort and help them ease the pain. This was after demise of their brother Lazarus. Jesus was the so much awaited guest ,family friend and physician who failed to turn up in his sick bed only to appear four days after his burial. It’s at this point Martha laments on Jesus failure but still believed that anything could happen.
By the mention of death, our hearts are ripped with fear .It’s traumatic, painful and hard to comprehend. When we are left by our loved ones, we lament about Jesus absence and only wish how His presence would have brought a turn around of events. But Martha believes beyond norm that even in post burial period ,Jesus was able to salvage the situation.
Dear friends ,the world is serving many dead and death reports on all circles of life. Physical ,emotional, financial and social deaths are on upward trajectory. But even at the graveside ,Martha’s words of faith need to echo deep into our hearts ,” But I know that even now God will give you whatever you ask .”
Christ’s access to the Father on behalf of men is immediate ,direct by simply asking ,unlimited and efficacious. Even now he is able to give whatever we ask.
