Hag 2:4 ‘Yet now be strong, Zerubbabel,’ says the LORD; ‘and be strong, Joshua, son of Jehozadak, the high priest; and be strong, all you people of the land,’ says the LORD, ‘and work; for I am with you,’ says the LORD of hosts.
Those who had returned from exile had zealously started rebuilding the temple. However, some old men among the Jews , who had a privilege of having seen the old temple had a negative attitude on the building. To them, the building was so much inferior in magnificence to that of Solomon. They greatly discouraged those who were working.
Haggai raised the spirit of the people and encouraged them to go on with the work. He encouraged Zerubbabel and Joshua as well as the rest of the people to be bold and firmly committed to the construction work. Though the present construction was nothing as compared to the former, it’s glory was going to be more than the former.
Christian friends, despite the current challenges, let not your hearts sink. Strengthen the weak hands and make firm the trembling knees. Continue working for the Lord of hosts is with you. It’s true that currently things are not at their best, but the promise still remains ; … your later end shall be great! ( Job 8:7)
