Mar 8:31 And He began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again. Mar 14:58 “We heard Him say, ‘I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and within three days I will build another made without hands. ‘ ”
Jesus was brought before the Sanhedrin – that is the council of elders. The council was made up of seventy members and was the main governing body for the Jews. It had authority over all religious matters that concerned the Jewish nation.
Some witnesses rose to accuse Jesus of having said that he would destroy the temple and in three days will build it again. Jesus had not made reference to the temple in Jerusalem; he had talked about the “temple” of his body – His death and resurrection after three days. But from the beginning of his ministry, the Pharisees, the elders, chief priests and the scribes were committed to distorting and misquoting his remarks.
What was happening to Jesus still happens to all of us. We have people out there who are committed to distorting and misquoting whatever we do and say. They will always exaggerate, twist, omit or quote you out of context with an aim of bringing you down. Instead of a demotion, you will get a promotion.
