Joh 13:5 After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded.Joh 13:14 “If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet.
With his crucifixion so close, Jesus washed the feet of his disciples as an example of his humility and service. Washing people’s feet was considered a task that was so low that it could only be done by none – Jewish slaves. Jesus taught not only by word but by example.
By washing his disciples feet , he taught that they too, with love and humility should serve , help and encourage each other. Even though he was the highest authority on earth, he nonetheless lowered himself and made himself a servant for our sake.
We should not seek to be masters but should always consider others better than ourselves. We must be willing to admonish , encourage and refresh each other regardless of our positions in the society. Service to one another is service to God. We serve the Lord when we do these things to other brethren. ( Mat 25:40)
