Jos 1:11 “Pass through the camp and command the people, saying, ‘Prepare provisions for yourselves, for within three days you will cross over this Jordan, to go in to possess the land which the LORD your God is giving you to possess ”
The term “Jordan” is derived from a word which means ” descending “. The river plugged almost 1,500 feet in just 80 miles. At this time of the year it was at the flood stage. Crossing Jordan was just an act of faith as it was to have trust in God during the forty years Exodus.
This was the culmination of the forty years in the wilderness. The promised Abrahamic covenant was about to become a reality. But in order to actualize it, there was the Jordan to cross over. They had three days of preparations; three days of purification, three days to get their provisions ready and three days of putting together all that they had accumulated.
Waiting may be the hardest discipline of the Christian life. Most people would rather do anything than wait. Waiting time is never wasted time if you are waiting on the Lord. In a short while, Jordan will be behind us, the current pandemic will be over and our current challenges will be a thing of the past. Soon, the waiting period will be over; we will go in and posses it!
