2Ki 6:26 Then, as the king of Israel was passing by on the wall, a woman cried out to him, saying, “Help, my lord, O king!” 2Ki 6:27 And he said, “If the LORD does not help you, where can I find help for you? From the threshing floor or from the winepress?”
Ben-hadad king of Aram had laid a siege to Samaria. There was a great famine because the siege lasted for a long time. Two women decided to eat their sons in turn. After eating the first one, the mother of the remaining one decided to hide her son. The distressed woman sort for help from the king.
The magnitude of the help Samaria needed at this point in time was beyond the human help ; it required divine intervention. The king acknowledged that unless God helped them, he did not have the capacity to do so. So great was the food scarcity that an ass head was sold for five pounds and dove’s dung for five pieces of silver.
There are times when wealth and status are of little or no significance when compared to the need. The “small” and the “great” alike look up to the only source of help available… God.
Psa 121:1 I will lift up my eyes to the hills–From whence comes my help?
