2Sa 23:11 And after him was Shammah the son of Agee the Hararite. The Philistines had gathered together into a troop where there was a piece of ground full of lentils. Then the people fled from the Philistines. 2Sa 23:12 But he stationed himself in the middle of the
field, defended it, and killed the Philistines. And the LORD brought about a great victory.
Can you imagine one man single handedly facing a whole troop of the enemy soldiers? That’s exactly what happened with Shammah the son of Agee the Hararite. The Philistines and other enemies often came up in Judah’s valley to raid for food supplies. In this incident, the Philistines raided a farm that was full of lentils.
Unfortunately, the Israelites fled from the Philistines and left Shammah alone. Humanly speaking , the probability of him winning was zero. But against all odds, Shammah stood in the midst of the ground and defended it and killed the Philistines and the Lord brought about a great victory.
Sometimes that’s what happens. When you are in the midst of a great storm, everybody desserts you including the very people who you thought would stand with you. Although it was Shammah who fought the Philistines, it was Yahweh who brought about great victory. Do not fret, the battle belongs to our God!
