Joh 5:5 Now a certain man was there who had an infirmity thirty eight years.
Joh 5:6 When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he already had been in that condition a long time, He said to him, “Do you want to be made well?”
The above mentioned had been invalid for thirty eight years. For a long time he had been unable to do those things most of us take for granted. Together with others, they gathered at the pool of Bethesda where an angel would once in a while disturb the waters and the first to get in would be healed.
Getting into the pool was a tall order for someone who could not stand. But on this occasion, one better that the angel was visiting. Jesus looked at him and knew he had been in that condition for a long time. He asked the man a simple question, ” do you want to be made well ?”
Jesus is still asking the same question today. If we are okey with the way things are – no matter how miserable they may be – then there is no possibility for healing. Miracles happen when our will cooperates with God’s power to make them possible. When we acknowledge our vulnerability and dependence on him, he will make us well.
