Heb 11:9 By faith he sojourned in the land of promise as in a foreign country, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise;
Heb 11:10 for he waited for the city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God.
God had promised Abraham that his descendants would be a mighty nation occupying a promised land. Abraham and his children looked beyond even their own lives. Their faith in God made them believe that God’s ultimate purpose was to give them something beyond what they could attain on their own.
Although they were dwelling in tents, they were waiting for a city that had foundations. They saw something greater than Canaan; they saw a city whose designer and builder was God. The tents gave them temporary dwelling but the city would be a more permanent abode for them.
The present situation cannot by any standards be compared with what God has put in place for the saints. 1Co 2:9 But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”
The best is yet to come!
