Gen 2:2 And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done.
Cambridge Dictionary defines rest as follows : ” To ( cause someone or something) stop doing a particular activity or stop being active for a period of time in order to relax and get back your strength”. Rest is one of the greatest gifts that God gave to mankind.
Yahweh, the creator of the universe, rested after the act of creating the world on the seventh day. God blessed the seventh day and made it Holy because on it He rested from all the work of creation. God’s people were also given the blessing of rest – a whole day out of each week to contemplate God’s work and words.
In our world today, we have some people who know no rest. All human beings need a rhythm of work and rest in order to live up to their God given potential. Although God gives people important work to do, God also asks people to rest periodically. When people work and rest in comfortable alternations, they become physically healthy, mentally stimulated and spiritually fulfilled. Too much work without rest breaks may lead to unproductivity.
