Num 14:9 “Only do not rebel against the LORD, nor fear the people of the land, for they are our bread; their protection has departed from them, and the LORD is with us. Do not fear them.”
There was a great murmuring amongst the Israelites after the spying mission. From the report, great fear seized the populace. When they heard about the giants and their fortified cities and how helpless they were, they opted to select a leader who would lead them back to Egypt.
But Joshua and Caleb were of a different opinion. They beseeched them not to rebel against the Lord. The people they were so much afraid of had “no heart nor spirit ” left in them. They had no courage to defend themselves. The strength of their bodies and their walled towns would be of no avail to them. They would ” eat” them up like bread because their protection had already departed from them.
And that is the same situation we occasionally find ourselves in. When faced with ” the so called ” big challenges”, we allow ourselves to be intimidated and we lose heart. Sometimes we get so much obsessed with the magnitude of the problem and forget that God is with us. The protection of the people you fear so much has already departed and they will be ” bread to you”.
