Isa 43:18 “Do not remember the former things, nor consider the things of old.
Isa 43:19 Behold, I will do a new thing, now it shall spring forth; shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.
All the wonders of the great historic past of Israel were to be as nothing compared with the new manifestation of the power of Jehovah which Isaiah see as already dawning in the future ( Ellicott’s commentary)
What God was going to do in the future was going to be more glorious than what he had already accomplished. He was going to deliver them out of Babylon and bestow upon them many blessings. The coming of the messiah shall be so transcendent a favor, that, in comparison thereof, all their former deliverances will be scarcely be worth of remembrance.
The positive side and the negative side of our history should not be allowed to poison the future. We should stop regretting and rehearsing our past mistakes and failures. All our achievements and failures of yesterday are not our conclusion. Behold the Lord is doing a new thing that will surpass our former achievements.
