Joh 2:14-16 And He found in the temple those who sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the moneychangers doing business. When He had made a whip of cords, He drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and the oxen, and poured out the changers’ money and overturned the tables. And He said to those who sold doves, “Take these things away! Do not make My Father’s house a house of merchandise!”
Jesus had gone to Jerusalem during the passover feast. As his custom was, he went into the temple and found those who were selling oxen , sheep and doves and money changers seated at their tables.
People travelling from a long distance needed to purchase sacrificially acceptable animals. However, the family of the high priest controlled those shops and charged exorbitant prices for the animals. *Those who* *brought their own animals would be disqualified because of alleged physical defects* . Therefore they opted to purchase the animals from these dealers. *The money changers changed the other currencies to* *shekels at a high fee* . *The house of prayer had been changed to a den of robbers!*
This made Jesus make a scourge out of cord and drove them out. What is the condition of our temple ? ( hearts). Is it a place where God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit can reside? Jesus is an expert in temple cleansing. *His blood is the best detergent that can make us white as snow.* He does not only provide the cleansing but also power for godly living.
