Luk 22:41 And He was withdrawn from them about a stone’s throw, and He knelt down and prayed,
Luk 22:42 saying, “Father, if it is Your will, remove this cup from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.”Luk 22:43 Then an angel appeared to Him from heaven, strengthening Him.
The location of this incident is the garden of Gethsemane. Jesus instructed his disciples to linger in prayer so that they could overcome temptation. From there , he withdrew from them about a stone throw and he knelt down and prayed. The situation was overwhelming for him. He was deeply distressed and troubled .
He was about to take on himself the punishment for our sins. He was about to take on himself the full punishment for our sins so that we who believe in him could receive salvation . And for this reason, he knelt down and prayed . Then an angel appeared to him from heaven and strengthen him.
When life throw’s us off balance and threatens to bring us down, then we can reach out to God on our knees. Not only does kneeling to pray elicit a physical sense of humbling, it also communicates a reverence for the one to whom we pray ( Lia Martin, Bible Study Tools). You can pray at any position any time. The point is to position your heart; whether on your knees or otherwise.
