Act 16:25 But at midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them. Act 16:26 Suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened and everyone’s chains were loosed.
Paul and Silas had been accused of encouraging the worship of a deity – Jesus – which was not authorized by the Roman government. In response to the crowd attack on them , the city magistrates beat them with rods and sent them to jail. The jailer fastened Paul and Silas feet in stock which placed prisoners feet widely apart which must have caused a lot of discomfort.
Once settled, Paul and Silas responded by singing praises to God and praying while the other Prisoners listened. Then God ,by means of an earthquake caused the Prison doors to open and the chains of prisoners to come loose. Such chains would have been attached to the walls and the floor of the prison. Nevertheless , God caused them to fall apart.
What happens when sing hymns and praises to God? There is a powerful divine visitation opening every prison door for the prisoners and bringing deliverance to the captives. Chains are broken, the sick are healed, and the needs of God’s people are met. Unfortunately , many are in need of this visitation, but few tap into the anointing.
