1Sa 17:39 And David fastened his sword to his armor, and he tried to walk, for he had not tested them. And David said to Saul, “I cannot walk with these, for I have not tested them.” So David took them off.
David was preparing to go and face Goliath. Saul brought his own armor for David to wear. He put a coat of armor on him and a bronze helmet on his head. He fastened his sword over the tunic and tried walking around. He came to a realization that he was not accustomed to such outfit and he took them off.
“Then he took his staff in his hand, chose five smooth stones from the stream, put them in the pouch of his Shepherd’s bag and with his sling in his hand , he approached Goliath” (1Sa 17:40). David killed Goliath without the using a sword or a spear. He only needed one smooth stone and a sling!
David was not even a soldier but a volunteer to fight the Philistines. This proved that God did not need the heavy weapons and military prowess to save his people. When we face even the most ruthless rival, victory is not found ” in the arm of flesh; victory comes from God *” God uses our faith in him to accomplish greater things. Trusting God’s power means you don’t worry about your own weaknesses.
2Co 10:4 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds,2Co 10:5 casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,
