Gen 28:16 Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, “Surely the LORD is in this place, and I did not know it.”
Gen 28:17 And he was afraid and said, “How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven!”
Jacob was fleeing from his brother Esau and was on his way to his uncle’s place. When he reached a certain place, he stopped for the night because the sun had set. Taking one stone as his pillow, he lay down to sleep. He had a dream which he saw a stairway resting on earth with it’s top reaching heaven. Behold the angels were ascending and descending on it. And there above stood the Lord who blessed him and promised to be with him.
When he woke up, Jacob was convinced that the place was not a common place . The place was awesome and it could only be the ” house of God, the gate of heaven. This was the place where God manifested himself and his favour to Jacob. Jacob had God’s special presence with him.
It’s in the house of God where God manifests himself to his people. In His house, God gives undeniable demonstrations of his presence. It is in His house where the sick are healed, needs are met and the discouraged get encouraged. It is in His house where the sinful souls get to meet their saviour.
