2Co 1:20 For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us.(NKJV)
A promise is a declaration or assurance to a commitment by someone to do or not do something (Wikipedia) .Promises can be classified as covenants, oaths, vows or promise depending on the seriousness of the matter at hand.
In our world today, people are always making promises in order to achieve certain goals. People make vows during weddings, while assuming positions of responsibility or even a career. While entering into a contract, parties may be required to make a vow. When asking God for something in prayer, one may make a vow. Our politicians make promises in form of Manifestos in order to be elected .
Along the way, since man is limited, he may not fulfill all that he promised. The pressures of life, scarce resources and changing dynamics of life may make it impossible for them to fulfill these promises. It reminds us that man is potent. Our God is omnipotent, almighty and unlimited. He is a covenant keeping father . “God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?( Num 23:19).*
The Bible has many promises and all of them have been summed up in Jesus Christ. These precious promises are hidden in His word. It is our duty to diligently look for them the way a miner digs out precious metals from underground. As he came to the end of his life, Joshua reminded the Israelites that ” Not one of all the LORD’S good promises to the house of Israel had failed; all promises made had been fulfilled.( Jos 21:45)”.
