Gen 1:1-2In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth
The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.
Genesis is a beginning and it commences with the beginning of creation. It is the beginning of a relationship between God and the world. This is a physical as well as spiritual creation. God fashioned the earth from the chaotic element (it was without form and void) and ultimately it became.
The Gregorian calendar acknowledges January 1st as the beginning of a calendar year. Thus this has many practices where people, families and institutions sit down to plan for the year ahead. Many draw New Year resolutions and chat way forward in anticipation that there will be progress in the course of the year.
As we engage in planning for 2023, it is prudent to allow God to have the first priority of our year’s blueprint. Many things will be clamoring for our attention and devotion: our families, jobs, organizations, friends and other issues of life. With all these distractions, we need to make a deliberate goal of giving God His eminent place as we engage in the year’s affairs. Let’s purpose that 2023 will be a year to keep God first in all that we do.
