Mat 25:28 ‘Therefore take the talent from him, and give it to him who has ten talents.
Mat 25:29 ‘For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away.
The parable of the talents demonstrates that we are likely to lose whatever we fail to prudently manage. The three servants were given talents according to their abilities . The first servant was given five talents, the secord servant two and the third servant one. A talent was a Greek coin whose value was equal to 6000 days or twenty years of wages.
The one who was given five went and traded with them and gained another five. The one who was given two traded with them and gained another two. But the one who was given one talent went dug a hole and covered it. When the master came back, the one who was given five talents brought another five talents and was greatly rewarded. The one with two brought another two and was also greatly rewarded.
But the servant with one talent brought nothing but excuses. The wicked and the lazy servant failed to prudently use the resources and was severely punished. The one talent given to him was taken and given to the one who had many. The talents may represent financial resources, gifts, privileges and opportunities that God entrusts to us. When we fail to manage them well, we risk losing them.
