2Ki 4:6 When the vessels were all full, she said to her son, Bring me another vessel. And he said to her, There is not a one left. Then the oil stopped multiplying.
One of the son’s of the prophet had died and left behind a widow and his two sons. In addition to this, he had left some debts that needed to be cleared. Poor people and debtors were allowed to pay their debts by selling themselves or their children as slaves. The shunamite woman found herself in such a scenario. Debtors were on her neck. That prompted her to go to Elisha for help.
When asked what she had, she had nothing save a pot of oil. She was sent to borrow vessels of all sorts and sizes. The woman and her sons collected pots and jars from their neighbors. They were to shut the door and put the oil into the borrowed jars from their one pot. One amazing thing is that, the oil ceased flowing the moment they ran out of containers. Capacity dictated the amount of oil they were to receive. God’s reservoirs could not get diminished.
What we receive is directly proportional to our capacity . The number and the sizes of jars gathered was an indication of their faith. God’s provision was as large as their faith and willingness to obey . Christian friends, we should beware of limiting God’s blessings due to lack of capacity. Remember this, God is the one who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us.( Eph.3:20). Dear friends, let’s purpose to enlarge our spiritual, social and economic capacities as we trust God to move us to the next level.
