Mat 27:50-53 Jesus, when He had cried out again with a loud voice, yielded up His spirit. And behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks were split,and the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised; and coming out of the graves after His resurrection, they went into the holy city and appeared to many.
Death is the permanent, irreversible cessation of all biological functions that sustains an organism. The remains of a former organism normally begin to decompose shortly after death ( Wikipedia)
WHY IS JESUS DEATH THE MOST CELEBRATED DEATH IN HISTORY ?
1) Jesus died at about 3.00pm which coincided with the afternoon sacrifice. He became the perfect sacrifice for the atonement of our sins .
2) At 3.00pm, the priests were in the temple to observe the afternoon sacrifice. This means they were there to witness the veil of the temple being torn into two from the top to the bottom. Jesus death granted us new access to God.
3) There was a great earthquake and the rocks were split. The centurion and those that were guarding Jesus saw what happened and they feared greatly saying ” truly , this was the son of God” ( V 54)
4) The graves of the saints who died long ago were ruptured and their bodies raised. When Jesus resurrected, they went into the holy city and appeared before many. Jesus victory over death guaranteed that God will raise his people .
The death of Jesus Christ on the Cross is the most celebrated death in history. Joh 15:13 “Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.
