Luk 22:41 And He was withdrawn from them about a stone’s throw, and He knelt down and prayed,
Luk 22:42 saying, “Father, if it is Your will, remove this cup from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.”Luk 22:43 Then an Angel appeared to Him from heaven, strengthening Him.
Jesus was in the Mount of Olives, as his custom was for prayers. After exhorting his disciples to pray, he went a stone throw away and knelt down and prayed. Although the normal position of Jewish prayer was standing with the eyes and hands lifted up to heaven but during this prayer session, he knelt down and prayed.
Jesus human nature was struggling with the will of God. After a short while, he was going to be crucified on the cross. This was going to be an extremely painful and traumatizing experience . The temptation he faced was to bypass the cross. Though his human nature was crying out for deliverance, his heart was set on fulfilling the father’s plan of substitutionary atonement. Then an angel appeared from heaven and strengthened him.
Like Jesus, we occasionally go through very painful and traumatizing experiences. But when our knees hits the ground, we receive the strength to conquer ; What was impossible becomes possible, what was frightening becomes bearable and fear and anxiety gives way for faith and victory . Psa 34:7 The angel of the LORD encamps all around those who fear Him, And delivers them.
