Dan 6:1 It pleased Darius to set over the kingdom one hundred and twenty satraps, to be over the whole kingdom; Dan 6:2 and over these, three governors, of whom Daniel was one, that the satraps might give account to them, so that the king would suffer no loss. Dan 6:3 Then this Daniel distinguished himself above the governors and satraps, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king gave thought to setting him over the whole realm.
Operational efficiency is about how you manage your affairs in order to reduce wastage, improve productivity plus the quality of the products and services. The bottom line is to help an organization cut down on unnecessary cost but at the same time increase the output.
And that’s what king Darius wanted to achieve . In order to improve efficiency and avoid loss, he appointed one hundred and twenty Satraps to manage the affairs of his kingdom. The satraps were made accountable to three administrators one of whom was Daniel. Now the king wanted to make Daniel the chief administrator because he had exceptional equalities – the spirit of excellence. If fully implemented, Darius was going to minimize the loses in his kingdom , improve productivity and the quality of services
The above can be described as a ” super administrative structure of his day”. We need to interrogate our operational systems at the family, institutions, organisations and ministries levels with the intention of sealing the “leaks “, minimizing loses and improving efficiency. Efficient operations are cost effective, reduces waste while maintaining high quality services.
