2Co 4:17,18 For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
Paul’s daily diary recorded troubles of different intensities ; perplexities, persecutions, stoning, ship wreck ,stripped, discouragements, betrayal and imprisonment. Contrary to what you would expect in such set ups, Paul terms all these as temporal light afflictions in comparison to eternal weight of glory.
Paul’s experience of suffering – of meeting God in the midst of suffering, led him to conclude that everything he experienced was a “light momentary affliction”. None of our sufferings are wasted or an accident. It is all contributing to a joyful, satisfying” weight of glory ” that we will soon inherit. May this form a foundation of our faith in God.
Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you. But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy ( 1 Pet 4:12-13).
