1Sa 23:1 Then they told David, saying, “Look, the Philistines are fighting against Keilah, and they are robbing the threshing floors.” 1Sa 23:2 Therefore David inquired of the LORD, saying, “Shall I go and attack these Philistines?” And the LORD said to David, “Go and attack the Philistines, and save Keilah.”
Keilah was a fortified town in the tribe of Judah near to Eleutheropolis on the road to Hebron. During harvest , when the corn was ripe and fit to be threshed , the Philistines would raid and rob the threshing- floors which were in the open fields. This was very devastating to the men of Judah.
The news of Keilah’s attack was brought to David. David did not rush towards Keilah ! He did not call for the top military brass to strategize the raid! He knew very well that ” there is no king who is saved by the size of his army”. He first inquired of the Lord. The Lord graciously commissioned him to go and save Keilah. David attacked the Philistines, defeated them and delivered the city.
Believers must learn to always involve God when making decisions. When God says yes, nobody can say no! When God promises success, we will not be afraid of facing any enemy. When you have the heavenly backing, no matter how fierce the battle is , victory is guaranteed.
