Prov 16:16much better to get wisdom than gold, to get insight rather than silver!
Baltes and Staudinger (2000, p. 124 ) define wisdom as “expertise in the fundamental pragmatics of life.” This is further defined as “knowledge and judgment about the essence of the human condition and the ways and means of planning, managing, and understanding a good life.”
The Webster’s Unabridged Dictionary defines wisdom as “knowledge, and the capacity to make due use of it.”
Solomon is regarded as the most prudent king on earth. He asked God for wisdom; insight on how to apply knowledge effectively. This gave him a leverage above other known leaders. To date we refer to “Solomonic Wisdom” deriving from the famous judgment that he made leveraged by wisdom.
Gold has been one of the most sought after metal in human history because of its value. The gold standard is a monetary system in which a currency’s value is pegged to gold. Regardless of its optimum value, the Bible places wisdom above Gold. You can own gold but if you lack wisdom, the gold will not benefit you.
We earnestly need wisdom to run the affairs of our families, businesses, ministries, organizations, nations and even our own lives. Just like we acquire “Driving Licenses”, we direly need wisdom to keep navigating the courses of our lives. May we acquire wisdom to keep us going in all our endeavors.
