Act 20:22 “And see, now I go bound in the spirit to Jerusalem, not knowing the things that will happen to me there, Act 20:23 “except that the Holy Spirit testifies in every city, saying that chains and tribulations await me.Act 20:24 “But none of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my race with joy, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.
For Paul, going to Jerusalem was going to be very dangerous. After his conversion, the Jews in Jerusalem were trying to kill him. In obedience to the leading of the Holy Spirit, Paul was more than willing to go to Jerusalem. There was enough evidence, even from fellow believers that there were problems and he would surely face great hardships and could end up in Prison.
But Paul was not afraid of persecution. According to him, duty was to be done at all hazards. He knew that calamity of some type was beckoning. However, for the faithful discharge of his God given assignment, he had nothing to fear. All that he wanted was that Christ be exalted whether by life or by death. He had only one goal in life; to finish the race and complete the task which Jesus had given him.
When we are led where the battle ranges, we should not hesitate or shrink from taking the challenge. * *Failure to yield is to officially decline the blessings accompanying the package. Saying yes is activating faith that will eventually propel you to success. The things hardest to bear are the sweetest to remember** . Although it is tough, the Lord will give us victory.
