Rev 2:4 “Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love.
Rev 2:5 “Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place–unless you repent.
One of the recipient of the seven letters written to the seven churches by Christ was the church in Ephesus. In this letter, Christ gives the Ephesian Church its real scorecard. At first, he praises the church for not tolerating wicked and for testing those who claimed to be apostles and were not. He also praised them for enduring hardships and not growing weary.
However, the one time loving church had fallen out of love. The two friends were no longer as close as they were before. The great love and joy which they had at the beginning of their Christian lives had now begun to fade away. The one time loving church was dangerously becoming a loveless church . And unless they repented and reverted to the things they did at first, Christ would come and remove their lamp stand out of place.
Let us never forget the love we had for Christ when we first believed. When we first believed, we were filled with joy, love , zeal and gratitude. We offered our entire lives to Christ. We need to sincerely interrogate ourselves and find out whether the joyful fellowship we first had with Christ has grown cold. We must begin again to do the works of love!
