1Sa 2:8 He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the beggar from the ash heap, To set them among princes and make them inherit the throne of glory. “For the pillars of the earth are the Lord’s, and He has set the world upon them.
There has been many cases where, in the course of God’s providence, a person has been raised from the lowest and most abject state to the highest; from the plough to the imperial dignity; from the dungeon to the throne; from dunghill to nobility . ( Adam Clarke’s Commentary)
This is part of Hannah’s prophetic hymn. Being barren made her go through shame, humiliation and ridicule. This must have reduced her status to the lowest state both at the community and at the family level . But she believed that if God controls the earth’s foundational pillars, then He could control the status of it’s citizens.
Our God, the creator of the universe has set great things a head of us. As it is written,
1Co 2:9….. “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.” He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the beggar from the ash heap and sets them among the princes. We would better start learning the rules and conventions of how to behave when we get there!
