Gen 41:34 “Let Pharaoh do this, and let him appoint officers over the land, to collect one-fifth of the produce of the land of Egypt in the seven plentiful years.
Gen 41:35 “And let them gather all the food of those good years that are coming, and store up grain under the authority of Pharaoh, and let them keep food in the cities.
Gen 41:36 “Then that food shall be as a reserve for the land for the seven years of famine which shall be in the land of Egypt, that the land may not perish during the famine.”
This was the grand plan on how to mitigate the effects of a seven year famine presented to Pharaoh by Joseph. According to Joseph, the two dreams Pharaoh had were one and the same. The seven good cows symbolized seven years of great abundance while the seven ugly cows represented seven years of famine.
Joseph came up with a wonderful plan on how to manage the seven years of famine.
1 )Pharaoh should look for a good leader – Joseph
2) Pharaoh should appoint officers in charge of food collection in the whole land.
3) They should collect a fifth of the harvest
4) The food should be stored up in food stores in cities under Pharaoh’s authority .
5) This exercise should go on for seven years
Please note this is what is called SMART PLANNING
S – Specific goals- Collect and store food
M – Measurable – A fifth of the produce
A- Achievable – All items within reach
R -Relevant – Food – save lives
T- Timeframe – A good seven years of phase one and another seven years of phase two.
As your start the year, start by planning – goal setting. Embracing God’s gift of planning will enable you have something specific to work on. If you fail to plan , then you are planning to fail.
