Mat 26:13 “Assuredly, I say to you, wherever this gospel is preached in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be told as a memorial to her.”
The anointing took place approximately six days before the passover and one day before Jesus triumphal entry to Jerusalem. The perfume used probably had been kept for many generations as a financial security. It was worth three hundred dinarii ; that is a years wage.
The woman poured it all out on the head and the feet of Jesus and wiped his feet with her hair. Some of those present however rebuked her either verbally or in their hearts for being wasteful. Some were of the opinion that the perfume should have been sold and the money be given to the poor . But Jesus silenced them by revealing to them that by anointing him, Mary had prepared his body for burial. And for that reason, whenever the gospel is preached, what she did will always be told as a memorial to her.
For us to be great and make history , we have to be like Mary( John 12:8). We must have a giving heart (Mary gave sacrificially – giving unlocks many blessings), we must have a worshiping heart ( she did not stop bowing down and wiping Jesus feet with her hair – a heart after God’s own heart – a heart given to worship), we must have a timely heart ( she anointed the body of Jesus on time. Those who attempted to do it later were doing the right thing at the wrong time. They were time barred) Timing and being timely is a crucial key to success.
