Joh 20:27 Then He said to Thomas, “Reach your finger here, and look at My hands; and reach your hand here, and put it into My side. Do not be unbelieving, but believing.”
Joh 20:29 Jesus said to him, “Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”
The tactile sense or touch is a sense that most people are familiar with. It is one of the so called five common senses that responds to anything that touches the skin. The thousands of nerves ending in the skin responds to basic sensation like cold, pressure, hot, pain etc. Thomas wanted not only to see Jesus, but also touch him; put his fingers into the print of the nails.
_During one of the occasion when Jesus appeared to the disciples, Thomas was missing. Those who were present told him of the wonderful divine visitation by the savior but he could not accept their testimony. He wanted to personally see and touch Jesus. *_ Later, Jesus appeared again and Thomas was present. While proclaiming his faith to the risen Christ, Thomas said, ” my Lord and my God” and Jesus declared ” Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”*
The Apostles had the privilege of seeing , touching and interacting with Jesus on a daily basis for three years. But we are not disadvantaged for not having done so. The fact is that we are blessed because we have faith and we believe in him. “Blessed are those who have not touched him nor seen him yet they believe in him”. Faith is the new way of accessing him!
