Jn 17:20 “My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, Jn 17:21 that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. Jn 17:22 I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one:
This is part of the prayer that Jesus tearfully made at the Garden of Gethsemane after the last supper discourse right before he was arrested to be crucified.
Jesus prayed that his disciples may be one. God would make them one with the father, the son and the Holy Spirit. This is an awesome achievement; that we would experience in the body of Christ a oneness that is only comparable to the oneness of the Trinity.
We live at a time when those things dividing us seems to be more than those uniting us. We are more prone to turning against each other instead of being for one another. May unity in our churches, families and institution be an ever increasing reality. If you are a believer in Jesus Christ, you are also included in this portion of the prayer. It is always comforting for me to know that Jesus is praying for me .(Chuck Smith)
