Jos 2:1 And Joshua the son of Nun sent out of Shittim two spies secretly saying, Go view the, and Jericho|”. And they went and entered the house of a prostitute, named Rahab, and lodged there.
When Joshua planned the conquest of Jericho, he sent spies to investigate the fortifications of the city. The above text describes that, the spies met Rahab “the harlot”. If the Bible calls her so, you can only imagine what other people said about her.
Why would the spies stop at the house of Rahab the harlot? It was a good place to gather information and have no questions asked in return. Her house was in an ideal location for escape because it was built into the city wall . Finally, God directed the spies to Rahab’s house because he knew her heart was open to him and that she would be instrumental in the Israelite’s victory over Jericho .[Life Application Bible]
God often uses people with simple faith to accomplish his great purposes regardless of what kind of past we may have had or how insignificant we may seem to be. Rahab did not allow her past to keep her from the new role God had for her. She showed her faith in God by welcoming spies and by trusting God to spare her and her family when the city was destroyed. (Heb.11.31 It was by faith that Rahab the prostitute did not die with all the others in her city who refused to obey God. For she had given a friendly welcome to the spies. (NLT).
This moment in time you may be feeling bogged down by your past experiences. You may be feeling unable to move to your brightest future. The enemy could be whispering to you that lie about your past. I am here to remind us that our past does not define our future. You and me are defined by what God says about us and how we respond to that truth. Forget the former things, behold God is doing a brand new thing. Do not be enslaved by your past, you have a whole future waiting for your manifestation.
