Mat 5:13 “You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.
The Bible contains numerous references to salt. In various contexts, it is used metaphorically to signify permanence, loyalty, durability, fidelity, usefulness, value, and purification. But one of the most important quality of salt is it’s ability to add flavor. Although salt does not need to look like other ingredients and sends out no aroma, without it, the food is tasteless.
A little pinch of salt can make a large amount of water salty. Christians are called to be like the salt. In a tasteless world, full of violence, abuse, judgement, hopelessness, gossip and hurt, Christians are called to give it a flavor. We must change the taste of the earth and by doing so we will make it a better place to live in.
You are the salt – seasoning that brings out the God – flavors of this earth. If you lose your saltiness, how will people taste godliness? There must be something distinctive about our lives that makes the earth a better place to live.
