Psalm 115:1 — “Not unto us, O Lord, not unto us, but unto thy name give glory, for thy mercy, and for thy truth’s sake.”
In a world obsessed with recognition and self-promotion, Psalm 115:1 is a bold declaration of divine-centered humility. The repetition—“Not unto us, O Lord, not unto us”—reveals how deeply we must resist the temptation to receive the glory that belongs only to God. The psalmist redirects the spotlight, not because he feels unworthy, but because he knows God alone is worthy—for His mercy and truth that never fail.
True worship begins when we step out of the way and let God be seen. It is not our talents, wisdom, or strength that sustain us—it is His mercy. It is not our integrity that anchors us—it is His truth. Every good thing we have, every victory we celebrate, and every blessing we experience is rooted in the character of God, not in our own merit. That is why our lives must become living declarations of His glory.
When people look at your life, what do they see? May they not see your name lifted high, but God’s name magnified through your obedience, your patience, your generosity, and your faith. Our goal is not applause but alignment—to live in such a way that all praise rises upward. Glory is safest in God’s hands. He knows what to do with it. We don’t. So, in every triumph and testimony, let our hearts echo this psalm: “Not unto us, O Lord, but to Your name be the glory.”
