Phil 3:13 (NKJV) β βForgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead.β
Paulβs words teach us that spiritual growth demands a disciplined relationship with the past. Yesterday has lessons, wisdom, and reminders, but it is never meant to become a dwelling place. The grace of God calls us into forward motionβtoward what is ahead, not what is behind. The enemy uses memory to create prisons, but God uses memory to shape perspective. Yesterday may inform you, but it cannot define you. God is always moving, and He invites you to walk with Him into whatβs next.
Biblical history shows the cost of turning back. Lotβs wife looked behind and lost her future. Israel longed for Egypt and delayed their promise. Even Jesus warned, βNo one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom.β Backward focus weakens forward faith. The past can comfort temporarily, but it cannot carry destiny. What God has closed cannot be reopened for livingβonly for learning. Purpose demands pursuit, not nostalgia.
Godβs mercies are new every morning because His direction is always forward. He redeems the past, empowers the present, and prepares the future. Your calling is not to repair yesterday, but to receive today and reach for tomorrow. Destiny unfolds when you stop rehearsing old chapters and start embracing Godβs new work. For in His kingdom, yesterday is a reference, not a residence. As we come to the end of the year, let’s remember 2025 is a reference, not a resident!
